Rockland BOCES

We currently operate 7 district-based elementary CABAS® classrooms under the administration of Rockland County (NY) BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services). All district-based classes have a student-to-teacher-to-teaching assistant ratio of 8:1:2. Children are grouped according to age as well as academic, social, communication, self-management, and behavioral needs.

Our seven district-based CABAS® classes are housed within our local component school districts.  Within selected public school settings, our students are afforded opportunities to integrate with their typically developing peers. When appropriate, and as per their IEPs, our students are mainstreamed with regular-education students in both academic and non-academic subjects. Thus, strengths and weaknesses in academic skills, social skills, and self-management skills are taken into consideration when placing students in these settings. All of our classroom teachers are certified in New York State to teach in the area of special education.  In addition, teachers work towards completing the CABAS® Board Certified Teacher ranks and may also be students in the Ph.D. program in Teaching as Applied Behavior Analysis (TABA) at Teachers College. The teaching assistants in our CABAS® classes hold NYS Teaching Assistant certification or are classified teacher aides. There is a regular cohort of assistants who are Masters Students in the TABA program and others who are working their way through the CABAS® Teaching Assistant ranks. On-site mentoring and supervision is provided 5 days per week by CABAS® Board certified behavior analysts and consultants.
